How does your media product represent particular social groups?
Our media product represents particular social groups as our narrative can be related to, it can also be realistic as we have an important issue which can reflect on the audiences own personal lives. Our social group also would be particulary our age as they can refer to todays issues and may also find our media product entertaining as we were the ones who created it.

What have you learnt about new technologies from the process of constructing this product?
We have learnt that technologies are more easier to use than you think, we used a variety of different technologies that helped us a lot for our final product. We have found that using Blogger is a much easier way to show your work than writing things down with loads of sheets. It is also an easier way for the teacher to keep up to date in what we are doing and it is easier to recieve feedback. We also used GarageBand to help us create a song as we were not allowed to have a known song already, this made us create music which we thought would be suitable for our product and give the audience the right sense of emotion.

Looking back on your preliminary task, what do you feel you have learnt during progression from it to your full product?
Looking back on our preliminary task we have found that doing as many shots as you possible can gives a wider range of choice to choose to put into the product. Also we feel that using the same fonts for the title cards creates less confusion for the audience. We feel that the music fits well with the storyline and does create a sense of emotion for the audience which makes them want to carry on watching the rest of the film. The storyline as well has progressed as we planned a lot about it unlike the preliminary task which was just thought about in a day.

Evaluation :D

Who would be the audience of your media product?

  • The main target audience of our audience is a more mature audience which is the main target audience for most thriller films.
  • We would hope to give it a 15 certificate to widen our audience and allows teenagers and young adults to see the film and possibly associate with some of the characters due to our main character being about 16 or 17 years old. Furthermore, a younger audience are more likely to be exempt from watching the film as they could find some scenes or social matters distressing.

How did you attract/address your audience?

  • Our story-line was quite complex which challenged the audience. However, we decided to leave the audience to manually discover what truly happened, rather than spoon feeding them the storyline and issues.
  • We addressed important social issues such as the absensce of a father, disruptive family dynamics etc which audiences would be able to empaphise with
  • Our mise-en-scene was kept very realistic for example we used to make up to create bruises on Olivia and we shot most scenes on set in realistic settings.

Evaluation

In what ways does your media product use, develop or challenge forms and conventions of real media products?
We included:
  • a score created by ourselves to add to the tense theme of our thriller
  • a complex storyline, conventional of the thriller genre as directors, like Alfred Hitchcock, aim to get the audience guessing
  • we asked Danielle's dad to participate in our filming to create more realism, as it is unlikely to see an all 17 year old cast in a real media product
  • we put great effort into making our mise-en-scene realistic to the setting, we used over 100 photos of Olivia and included many aged items like an old radio and telephone
  • the setting of our Thriller, e.g. the RAF Interview Room, helped develop the realism we aimed for in creating our media product
  • we used lighting to express mood and tone in our thriller, a conventional aspect of real media products, e.g. in the shed scenes we used low lighting creating a feeling of unease, in contrast to the bright lighting in the interview room, naturalist for such a setting.
  • Danielle and I aimed to make Olivia's make up as naturalist as possible in creating the bruises, something Olivia and Danielle planned during lesson time therefore allowing efficiency on the filming day. (See earlier post for pictures of the make up practice!)
What kind of media institution might distribute your media product and why?
  • Blogger, Myspace, BBC Film Network and Youtube are free web 2.0 sites that would allow us to upload and distribute our media product, reaching a wide audience whilst also taregting our ideal audience.

  • There are many Film Festivals around England that could distribute our film, e.g. the Cambridge Film Festival.

  • A journalist would be able to review our film providing marketing for our distribution, as they are keen to find new talent.

Help

We need your ideas!

We are stuck on what to call our fabulous thriller, so help us out!
So far we have come up with 'Daddy's Little Girl' and 'Diploid', but we want better than that!

Re-cap on what it's about... A father whose child was taken away from him when she was little, has become obsessed with following her and trying to get in touch with her and to make up the lost years. From the opening it becomes apparent he tried to kidnap her in order to explain to her who he was and where he had been, but it went horribly wrong with girl ending up bruised and upset in a police interview room.

All ideas welcome :)
Fankooo.

... More Progress

Our editing is now near enough finished, with just small adjustments to be made. We are wary of the deadline so we are putting in free time to make sure we don't get caught out!

We eventually found the perfect song. In the end we decided not to go with the 'happy' style at the start that we had originally hoped, this is because we thought the short time we had to capture our audience's attention should make them focus on the narrative, rather than being confused by the music.

Next thing on the agenda is our review. We have briefly spoke about making a directors cut talking about our Thriller, whilst also incorporating an advert on the DVD to make it all look profesh!

Progresssss

Well, since Ali and Olivia decided to jet off to New York and Russia I was left on my own. So, Wednesday's double lesson was dedicated to working on music on garageband because I wasn't confident to do any major editing or changes whilst they weren't there. AND Mr M was in Russia too, so if i did something terribly wrong, no one would be there to help me :( So I waited til Thursday's lesson and Ms Mann helped me create some still images, of our close ups of photographs within the shed. We did this because the footage was very shaky and it looks so much better now! I then changed the sequence around (I hope Olivia and Ali dont mind!) so the photos are at the start. I had this idea that we could play upbeat happy music over this section, tricking the audience into thinking its all happy families. But then it changes and is a lot more sinister than first thought. So yeah, that's about it really. Then I carried on working on more music :]
Cant wait til they get back... I've been lonely :(!!

Final filming!

Well we are now all done with filming :D
Last night we shot our "interview" scenes at the RAF police station on base at Honnington where my dad works! It all went to plan and we got all the shots we needed! It was so exciting aswell with the red light that came on outside the door, the tape recorders, the OFFICIAL police documents...me and Ali loved it haha!

This is the interview room we shot in. It was a bit different to what we expected to be like but hopefully will still be effective!

Below, is what my daddy wore. We dressed him in a suit to make him look official and superior as a policeman. I think it worked :]

This is Olivia in full costume and make up. As mentioned on the other post, we applied fake bruises to Olivia which look really horrific and will hopefully help tug on the heart strings of the audience. Furthermore, it may develop an enigma of how did she get these gruesome bruises?

Also we dressed her in a pretty floral dress to make her look innocent, young and girly.
